Why doesn’t God speak in more open terms, with visible signs? Why not be obvious?
When Jesus told the people parables, scripture shows us that He didn’t merely use them as illustrations, but at times to conceal truth so that only the hungry would understand. The book of Revelation says that we are kings and priests to our God and in Proverbs we learn that “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” Jesus also tells us that it has been granted to us to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven. Our God wants us to seek out His mysteries! He wants us knowledgeable. Hosea 4:6 says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge!”
Thief in the night and No man knows the day or the hour
These are two phrases from scripture that tend to get taken out of context quite often and need to be addressed before we begin. They are:
- Jesus is going to come like a thief in the night
- No man knows the day nor the hour
These two phrases, when heard without context, often discourage people from trying to understand prophetic scripture because if we can’t know then why bother, right? But the Bible says that all scripture is useful for teaching and since 1/3 of the Bible is prophecy, we have to include prophetic scripture in our studies so we don’t miss out on 1/3 of the character of God. So here we go, some context:
Revelation chapters 1-3 is Jesus is talking to the churches. Now while these were physical churches at the time this was written, prophetically these are the classifications or “types” of Christians in the end times.
The dead church
In Revelation 3:1-3, Jesus is talking to the church in Sardis, and says ‘I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God. So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you’. (emphasis added)
In context, it’s clear that Jesus is saying here that the dead church, the “dead” Christians, are among those who will not know the hour and to whom He will come like a thief.
The lukewarm church
In Revelation 3:17-18, Jesus is talking the Church of Laodicea, the lukewarm church.
‘Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.’
The eye salve is for them to be able to see that they are naked. To open the lukewarm Christian’s eyes to see that something is wrong.
A little later, in chapter 16 He says ‘Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.’ This is a direct reference to the Lukewarm church.
In Temple times, the high priest was known as the “thief in the night.” This is an excerpt from The Temple, It’s Ministries and Services by Alfred Edersheim, from the chapter A Night in the Temple:
During the night the ‘Captain of the temple’ made his rounds. On his approach the guards had to rise and salute him in a particular manner. Any guard found asleep when on duty was beaten, or his garments were set on fire- punishment, as we know, actually awarded. Hence the admonition to us who, as it were, are here on Temple Guard, ‘Blessed is he that watcheth, and keep his garments’ (Rev. 16:15)The priest whose duty it was to superintend the arrangements might any moment knock at the door and demand entrance. He came suddenly and unexpectedly, no one knew when. The Rabbis use almost the very words in which Scripture describes the unexpected coming of the Master (Mark 13:35)
So now from context we see that He’s coming like a thief in the night to dead Christians, lukewarm Christians, and those who are not watching.
This is confirmed by Paul in…
1 Thessalonians 5:2 (ESV)
2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. No man knows the day nor the hour
1 Thessalonians 5:4-5 (ESV)
4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.
5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.
More confirmation: The parable of the ten virgins
This parable is easier to understand if you know going in that oil represents the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 25:1-13 (NASB)
‘Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you do not know the day nor the hour.’ (emphasis added)
This was directed to the foolish virgins, not the wicked, but to those who claim to be Christian but do not have the Holy Spirit in them. They did not know the day nor the hour.
Jesus is going to come as a thief in the night, of course to the wicked, but also to a large portion of the church.
You’ll also notice that, taken in context, there is a theme to these scriptures: We are told to watch so that we won’t be taken by surprise. We can know the season, we can even know the feast and still not know the day nor the hour.
We’ll get into the feasts in a moment.
With the Lord, one day is a thousand years…
God works in weeks…everything is in 7’s: Sabbaths, Shemittahs, Jubilees, etc. These are the days of creation. They also represent the 7 millennia of God’s plan for humanity.
It is no coincidence that the sudden increase in technology and knowledge is taking place in the 6th day, the day of Man. With the understanding in mind that to God, a thousand years is a day and a day is a thousand years, we are currently located at the very end of the 6th day and are about to start the 7th day, the Sabbath, Jehovah’s day. This 7th day coincides with the one-thousand-year reign of Christ on Earth after He destroys His enemies at the end of the tribulation period. Notice also that according to this timeline, Jesus died 2 ‘days’ ago and He will rise/return on the third day, which coincides with the 7th day, the Sabbath, His Kingdom on Earth.
Genesis 1:14 (ESV)
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years,
The word seasons, moed, is a translation that loses all meaning in its translation to English. It’s original meaning in Hebrew is ‘appointment, fixed time or season, specifically a feast/festival.’ God placed the Sun, moon, and stars in their orbits for us to use them to calculate when His feasts, His appointed times, will be.
The feasts: The feasts were a part of the Mosaic Law that was given to the Children of Israel by God through Moses in the Torah, the first 5 books of the Bible. The Jewish nation was commanded by God to celebrate 7 feasts over a 7 month period of time, beginning in the spring of the year and continuing through the fall.
The first four feasts are the feasts of Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits and Harvest, commonly known as Pentecost. These are the Spring feasts. They represent the planting and were fulfilled at Christ’s first coming.
The last three feasts are the feasts of Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles, and they extend over a period of 21 days in the fall of the year. These are the Fall feasts. They represent the harvest and will be fulfilled at Christ’s second coming, starting with the Feast of Trumpets.
Biblical Prophecy is patterns, even number patterns
God gives us patterns to look for so that we can identify where we are on His timeline as well as what to expect. Here are some numbers that we’ll see popping up along with their meanings.
|3||Divine Completeness and Perfection|
|5||Grace, God’s Goodness|
|7||Spiritual Completeness, Father’s Perfection, Resurrection|
|12||Governmental Perfection, Israel, Wholeness|
|33||Promise, Length of Christ’s time on earth|
|40||Trials, Testing, Probation|
|50||Holy Spirit, Jubilee, Deliverance, Release of Debt|
|70||Spiritual Order, Judgement, Prophecy Completion|
|100||Election, Children of the promise, Bondage|
|120||Divine period of probation|
I’m sure everyone remembers the blood moons a couple years ago. As a refresher, 4 consecutive lunar eclipses 6 lunar months apart with no partial eclipses in between is called a lunar tetrad. When all 4 of the eclipses in a tetrad fall on God’s feast days, this becomes extremely rare and this is what is commonly known as a Blood Moon Tetrad.
There have been 7 blood moon tetrads in the 2000 years since Christ, the last 4 of which marked each turning point in prophecy of the plight of the Jews.
Thousands of years ago, the prophets who authored the Old Testament documented the warnings that God was sending to the Jews.
- The Jews were warned repeatedly that they would be dispersed worldwide if they were not faithful to their covenant with God.
- They were warned that they would be persecuted wherever they went and that after their dispersion, their land would become “desolate” and their cities would become waste.
- God also promised that He would preserve the Jews until the time came for Israel to be re-established as a nation.
This has never happened to any nation except Israel. The Hebrew Language had even become a dead language and it was brought back as well…another first. Each turning point in this prophecy was highlighted by a blood moon tetrad during the year it occurred.
The 7th and most recent tetrad, instead of 4, ended up being 7 consecutive eclipses (5 lunar, 2 solar) that all landed on God’s Feast days. This also has never happened before.
In Colossians 2, Paul says that the feasts are but a “mere shadow” of things to come. Here’s my favorite example:
When Moses was in Egypt and God told him to tell Pharaoh to let his people go, Pharaoh as we all know refused, which brought on the plagues. God warned the people through Moses that the final plague would be the death of every firstborn. In order to show their faith in God’s protection, they were to sacrifice an unblemished lamb and paint a streak over the doorway with it’s blood so that Death would pass over. The ones who did were saved by the blood of the lamb.
During the Exodus, God commanded them to recognize this day annually as the feast of Passover. So every year they did, and 1500 years later Jesus, the unblemished “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world”, in order to save us from eternal death, was slain on the very day, at the very hour the Passover Lamb was being slaughtered at the temple. God used the pattern to show us who Jesus really is.
Jesus fulfilled each of the first 4 feasts in this manner, to the very hour. Now, we know that God is unchanging so all evidence suggests that the final three feasts will be fulfilled in the same manner, on the day that it was appointed by God. Just like the first four. That being said, all evidence points to Christ’s return on a Feast of Trumpets, which just don’t know which one.
The Feast of Trumpets
The Feast of Trumpets, called Rosh Hashanah today, points to the Rapture when the Messiah will appear in the heavens as a Bridegroom coming for His bride, the Church. The Rapture is always associated in Scripture with the blowing of a loud trumpet (I Thessalonians, I Corinthians, Revelation).
Before continuing, I feel it needs to be said that it is my researched opinion that the Rapture is not going to happen this year. These are signs of things to come so that we can get prepared.
The Feast of Trumpets, which is the Jewish New Year, will fall on September 21st this year. There is a Hebrew idiom, or saying, that concerns the feast of Trumpets and the phrase: “No man knows the day nor the hour.” You see, the feasts are God’s appointed times, not ours, so we have to calibrate our calendar to God, not the other way around. In order to schedule the feasts every year and calibrate them to God’s calendar, the first one of the year must be precise, and then the rest of the feasts for the year can be scheduled ahead of time based on that date.
A new moon marks the start of the Jewish month so in Hebrew tradition, every year, in the weeks leading up to the first feast of the year, the Feast of Trumpets, there would be scholars, rabbis and astronomers watching the moon, looking for key elements to determine exactly when the new moon would be. In the weeks prior to this coming feast, the people would be making preparations for the Feast of Trumpets, knowing that it would begin on the new moon, but not knowing when the new moon would be. There would be two witnesses who separately, upon determining the new moon was occurring or about to occur, would go before the Sanhedrin and report their findings. If the Sanhedrin confirmed their findings, then the trumpets would be sounded to alert the people that the Feast of Trumpets was beginning.
This is the one feast day of the year that everyone gets prepared for without knowing exactly when it will be. So, in Hebrew tradition the Feast of Trumpets is known as the feast whose day or hour, no man knows. When Jesus said of the day of his return that no man knows the day nor the hour, the people hearing these words would have instantly understood this as a reference to the Feast of Trumpets, providing more evidence that He intends to fulfill the final three feasts to the day.
This Feast of Trumpets marks the start of the Jewish year 5778
A quick side note about the end of the year 5777. This year is made up of a 5 and three 7’s. 5 means grace, 3 means divine completeness, and 7 means the Father’s perfection and completion. So string together the definitions of the numbers in the year 5777 and we get the perfect completion of grace. As we are in what is known as the period of grace that ends at the tribulation, this is an interesting meaning. Does this Feast of Trumpets mark the end of the period of grace?
The Feast of Trumpets is a two day celebration, the first of which is believed to be anniversary of creation of Adam & Eve. The month leading up to this feast is the month of Elul. During this month, the shofar is blown every day leading up to the Feast of Trumpets, reminding everyone that it is time to get prepared. The month of Elul is a time of preparation and repentance.
God is telling us who he’s talking to
According to the Rabbinical Interpretation of Eclipses, an eclipse of the moon is a sign of trouble or judgement for Israel and an eclipse of the sun is a sign of trouble or judgement for the gentile nations.
We’ve been given the example by God that the lunar eclipses marked each of the prophesied turning points in the plight of the Jews. Now we have an eclipse of the sun that is clearly no standard eclipse.
The August 21st eclipse path of totality only touched the U.S. and divided the nation in half. The last time there was an eclipse that did this was 1776, the year of the birth of our nation. The path of totality was 70 miles wide, entered the US at the 33rd state, crossed 12 states and exited on the 33rd parallel.
Is this a sign of great division coming?
Abraham Lincoln presided over the greatest divide in American history, the Civil War.
- Trump’s first full day of life was 770 months, 777 weeks and 770 days after Lincoln was assassinated.
- Trump’s first full day in office was 70 years, 777 months, 777 weeks and 777 days from the day Lincoln died.
- Trump was born 700 days before Israel and his first day in office would be on his 70th year, 7th month and 7th day life and he was elected 7 years, 7 months and 7 days after Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel.
- The day of the eclipse was 7 months to the day from Trump’s first full day in office.
No matter what you think of Trump, there is no doubt that God planned his Presidency. It’s also clear that God is showing us some sort of connection between his presidency and that of Abraham Lincoln. Is this a warning of another division on the scale of the American Civil War?
This is interesting as well. 7 years from now there will be another eclipse on the 1st day of the Jewish sacred year, 21 days (three 7’s) before Passover. This eclipse will also cross only the United States. The paths of totality of these eclipses, separated by 7 years, appear to resemble the Hebrew letter Tav.
The Sun and moon were created on the 4th day to be used for signs and feasts. The Sun is 400 times larger than moon but its also 400 times farther away, which is why the sizes match up, giving us a perfect solar eclipse. Interestingly enough, Tav means sign or mark and has a numerical value of 400.
God is the creator of all things and all things are held together by Him. There is no such thing as coincidence.
Harvey, a category 4 hurricane, made landfall 4 days after the eclipse, 4 weeks prior to the Feast of Trumpets. It was the most powerful storm in 12 years and brought with it 12-foot storm surges. The hurricane struck between Corpus Christi, which is Latin for “The Body of Christ”, and Victoria, which is Latin for “Victory”.
The eclipse was on the 21st, Harvey made landfall on the 25th, flooding began on the 26th.
Luke 21:25-26 (NASB)
25 “There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,
26 men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
God is telling us what time it is on his calendar
Remember what I said about the new moon marking the beginning of the Jewish month? This month of Elul leading up to the feast of Trumpets is no exception. This time, however, God ensured that everyone saw it. A new moon is required for a total solar eclipse so with this particular new moon/eclipse, the WORLD was notified what day it is. There’s no mistaking this, the total solar eclipse on August 21st 2017 established exactly what day it is on God’s calendar: the 1st of Elul. The biblical month of Elul has officially begun.
God is telling us what to do.
Now that we know who God is talking to and exactly where we are on His calendar, we can use the patterns established in His word to find out what God is telling us to do or expect.
The pattern of the 1st of Elul, the day of the eclipse
- The 1st of Elul is the same day that Jesus began his 40 days of being tested in the wilderness.
- The 1st of Elul is the same day that Moses ascended the mountain for his 3rd and final 40 day period, after the commandments had been broken, seeking atonement for the nation of Israel for forgetting God so quickly and reverting to worshiping idols.
- Nineveh had been prepared by God to receive Jonah. Three years prior to Jonah’s arrival there was a great plague in Nineveh, followed by a civil war the next year, then another plague the year following that.
- The next year there was a total solar eclipse and exactly 1 month later, Jonah arrived.
- His arrival was on the 1st of Elul and he began preaching that they have 40 days to repent or be destroyed.
- Haggai the Prophet
- Haggai 1:1-4 (ESV)
1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest:
2 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.”
3 Then the word of the LORD came by the hand of Haggai the prophet,
4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?
- The sixth month is Elul, and the prophecy here takes place on the 1st.
- In 536 B.C., a remnant of about 50,000 Jews had returned from Babylon to Judah under the decree of Cyrus, King of Persia. They quickly rebuilt the altar, but ran into difficulties building the temple and eventually became comfortable living without it.
- They had built themselves nice new homes and got caught up in the routine of life and had drifted into a way of life where their intellectual belief in the supremacy of God was not reflected in the way they were living.
- The message is clear, we need to be building the church now.
- Haggai 1:1-4 (ESV)
The solar eclipse, a sign for the world, took place on a day that historically marked the beginning of a very specific 40 day period.
The Theme of the 40 day period starting on 1 Elul:
- A time of testing.
- A time of intercession for others to avoid the coming judgement and wrath.
- A time of sincere repentance in order to avoid certain destruction.
- A time to build God’s church.
God is warning us.
This is a cursory breakdown of the Revelation 12 sign that will take place on September 23rd, 2017. If this is the first you’re hearing about it, click here to learn more.
Revelation 12:1-2 (ESV)
1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
2 She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth.
- Historically, Virgo is the only constellation known as the woman, even during biblical times.
- On November 20th of last year, Jupiter, the King planet, entered the womb area of the woman, Virgo.
- On September 23rd of this year, at the end of the Feast of Trumpets, exactly 33 days after the eclipse, the King Planet will emerge from the womb of the woman after 42 weeks (a clear reference to the gestation period of a woman with child).
- When this happens, the sun will be at her shoulder, the moon will move below her feet and on her head, we will see the constellation Leo, the lion no less, made up of 9 stars, which will be connected back to her head by the alignment of Mercury, Mars, and Venus, creating a crown of 12 stars.
- This will take place at the end of the Feast of Trumpets, believed to be the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, and the last time this alignment happened was over 6000 years ago, during the time of Adam and Eve.
Are these signs the bookends for a specific period of time for America and for the world?
Are we at the end of the period of grace?
Two days prior to the revelation 12 sign of the woman giving birth to the king in the heavens, on September 21st, the first day of the Feast of Trumpets, the end of the year 5777, the UN will gather for their International Day of Peace conference. where this year the theme is “Together for Peace, Respect and Safety”.
1 Thessalonians 5:3 (NASB)
3 While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
The same day that the world leaders are saying peace and safety, the woman in the sign in the heavens will be in the final stages of her labor pains.
Leviticus 12 says that when a woman gives birth to a boy she is unclean for 7 days, and then there are 33 more days of purification (for 40 total) before the child is to be presented at the temple.
If we apply that timeline to the sign of the woman giving birth, the 7 days of cleansing takes us to September 30, which is Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for the Jews. Yom Kippur is called the Day of Atonement and will also coincide with the end of the 40 days of testing and repentance that began 1 Elul, the day of the eclipse.
So from the total solar eclipse on 1 Elul to the Revelation 12 sign at the end of the Feast of Trumpets, is 33 days. 7 days of cleansing from the Revelation 12 sign of the woman is the Day of Atonement. If we count 33 more days from the Day of Atonement, for a total of 40 days from the woman giving birth (the period of purification for the child) we land on November 2nd, the 17th of Cheshvan, which is the anniversary of the day the flood. Interestingly enough, Jesus tells us in Matthew 24 that the coming of the Son of Man will be just “as the days of Noah.”
Want some more alignments?
When Jesus was asked by the disciples about the signs of his return, in that same chapter, Jesus tells them about wars, famine, pestilence, the love of many growing cold, and the arrival of the Antichrist. He then says:
Matthew 24:32-34 (ESV)
32 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.
33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates.
34 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
Most scholars believe that Jesus was referencing Israel as the fig tree.
So if that’s the case, how long is a generation for Israel?
There are a few choices from scripture to which Jesus could be referring. The candidates are 50, 70, 100, and 120 year generations. So which is it?
The 120 year generation comes from Noah being given 120 years to complete the ark before God destroyed the earth.
- The first Zionist Congress, where the need for a homeland for the new Jewish people was declared, was held August 29, 1897.
- That day was the first step in Israel becoming a nation again, or the first budding of the fig tree, and was exactly 120 years ago, on 1 Elul!
The Balfour Declaration was the British Government’s public acknowledgement of support for a Jewish homeland in Palestine.
- This day was the second step in Israel becoming a nation again, or the second step in the budding of the fig tree, and was 100 years ago, on 17 Cheshvan, anniversary of the day of the flood.
Israel was finally recognized as a nation in 1947, during a blood moon tetrad, exactly 70 years ago.
In 1967, exactly 50 years ago, Israel regained Jerusalem during the six day war and a blood moon tetrad.
All of these generation lengths are culminating NOW, at the end of the Jewish year 5777.
Keep in mind that when these signs happen and the rapture doesn’t, many will dismiss them just like the blood moons. Don’t be deceived, these are SIGNS of coming events.
God is telling us who he’s talking to
He’s telling us what time it is on His calendar
He’s telling us the significance of this time
And He’s telling us what to do
Don’t ignore His call. Most will.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NASB)
13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
But Jesus said “seek and ye shall find”
We have entered a period of testing, repentance, intercession, and evangelism. It is time to seek Him and His will for our lives. His signs and revelations are meant to confirm for us His sovereignty, to remind us that the safest place to be is in His will.
Are you comfortable with your relationship with Jesus the Messiah? Are you ready for what is coming? You can be. If you don’t KNOW what would happen if you died today or if you feel like something’s missing…today is the day. Get right with God by giving yourself to Him, leave the cleaning up to Him. Just come as you are.
